Micron Commits Over $67 Million to Idaho Transit Housing and Kids Savings

  • Micron Announces More Than $67 Million in Idaho Community Investments for Transit, Housing and Children

Micron Technology has announced more than $67 million in new community investments across Idaho, targeting public transportation, affordable housing and long-term savings opportunities for children. Announced on October 27, 2026, the commitments are intended to help communities manage growth as the Boise-based semiconductor company moves forward with its major campus expansion.

The new investments include $11.6 million for public transit, $10.5 million for housing initiatives and more than $45 million for eligible children’s savings accounts. They build on approximately $75 million Micron says it has contributed to Idaho communities since 2023 through grants, partnerships and other initiatives.

Transit Investment to Connect More of the Treasure Valley

Micron is committing approximately $11.6 million over five years to help Valley Regional Transit expand service across the Treasure Valley.

A major part of the investment will support Route 41, a new regional bus route connecting Caldwell, Nampa, Meridian and Boise. Planned stops include downtown Caldwell, the College of Idaho, the College of Western Idaho, Ten Mile Crossing, Boise Airport and Micron’s Boise campus.

The route is designed to operate seven days a week, offering an all-week regional service intended to make commuting and everyday travel more accessible. Valley Regional Transit estimates that more than 40,000 additional residents will live within a mile of the new service, with ridership expected to grow as the route matures.

The funding will also support expanded on-demand transit service in southeast Boise, near Micron’s campus, along with additional Park & Ride locations. These improvements are intended to provide more transportation choices for workers, students and residents as the region grows.

$10.5 Million to Support Affordable Housing and Homeownership

Micron’s housing commitment is divided between a Boise redevelopment project and initiatives led by LEAP Housing.

    The investment includes:

    • $2.5 million for the Lusk District Redevelopment Project: The funding will help close a financing gap for a planned development of more than 300 affordable homes in Boise. The project, developed by J. Fisher Companies in partnership with the City of Boise’s Housing Land Trust Program, is expected to use geothermal energy to provide heating for hundreds of affordable homes.
    • $4 million for rental housing in Mountain Home: Through its partnership with LEAP Housing, Micron will help support the addition of 30 two- and three-bedroom rental homes.
    • $4 million for first-time homebuyer assistance: The funding will support down-payment assistance for up to 200 first-time homebuyers across Ada, Boise, Canyon, Elmore and Gem counties.

The initiatives address different parts of the housing challenge, from increasing the supply of attainable rental homes to helping qualified households move toward homeownership.

The Boise project’s geothermal heating component also highlights how energy-efficient infrastructure may be incorporated into new affordable housing developments.

More Than $45 Million for Children’s Savings Accounts

Micron expects to contribute more than $45 million toward one-time $250 seed deposits into eligible children’s Trump Accounts, also known as 530A accounts.

The company estimates the Idaho initiative will support more than 181,000 accounts for eligible children under 18 in Ada, Boise, Canyon, Elmore and Gem counties.

The deposits are part of Micron’s broader commitment to expanding long-term savings opportunities for children in communities where the company operates. However, eligibility is subject to the program’s requirements and qualifying locations. Families should check the official program information to determine whether a child qualifies and how to establish an eligible account.

The initiative is intended to give participating children an early start on long-term savings, although the eventual value of an account will depend on program rules, investment performance and other factors.

    Investments Accompany Micron’s Boise Expansion

The community commitments come as Micron advances a major expansion of its Boise campus, a project expected to strengthen Idaho’s role in semiconductor manufacturing and create substantial employment opportunities over time.

Large industrial projects can bring economic benefits, but they can also increase pressure on roads, transit, housing and public services. Micron’s investment framework is intended to help address some of these community needs alongside the company’s growth.

The new funding builds on previous investments in areas such as education, workforce development, transportation improvements and community programs. Micron says its approach is designed to help local residents share in the opportunities associated with the company’s long-term presence in Idaho.

What the Investments Could Mean for Local Residents

For commuters, expanded regional bus service could offer another way to travel between communities without relying entirely on a personal vehicle. The planned seven-day route and on-demand service may be especially useful for workers and residents whose schedules or destinations are not well served by existing routes.

For households seeking affordable housing, the funding could support new rental options and provide down-payment assistance to some first-time buyers. The projects will take time to develop, however, and the announced commitments do not mean that all homes or assistance programs are immediately available.

Eligible families may also benefit from the children’s savings initiative, subject to account and location requirements.

Together, the investments represent an effort to connect economic expansion with practical community needs. Their eventual impact will depend on project delivery, transit implementation, housing availability and the number of families who qualify for the programs.

    What Happens Next?

The next steps include implementation planning with Valley Regional Transit, continued development work on the housing initiatives and further guidance on eligibility for children’s savings deposits.

Residents interested in transit changes can follow Valley Regional Transit’s service announcements. Prospective homebuyers and renters should monitor the relevant housing partners for project updates and application details, while families interested in Trump Accounts should verify eligibility through official program resources.

Micron’s announcement represents a substantial new community investment, but its benefits will become clearer as the projects progress and services become available.
